Targeted modulation of the gut microbiota-host interaction reveals novel mechanisms involved in host response during obesity
Obesity is associated with a cluster of metabolic disorders, low-grade inflammation, and gut barrier disruption. We and others have suggested that specific cross-talks between gut microbes and the immune system contribute to the onset of these disorders. Recently, we identified Akkermansia muciniphila as a novel bacterial candidate that plays a major role upon obesity, diabetes and inflammation.
Recent findings and potential mechanisms involved in the host-microbiota following different nutritional and pathological conditions such as diet-induced obesity and type 2 diabetes, will be discussed.
